Our Little Fighter

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.”  ~John Muir

This site is to celebrate the brief life of Kaden Anthony Burris, born to his parents Eric and Jamie on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 in San Diego. After a long and difficult labor, Kaden was born by caesarean section at 7:53 AM. He was not breathing upon delivery. The doctors immediately performed CPR and he was then placed in intensive care. He was listed in “guarded” condition.

Later that day, Kaden was transported to nearby Children’s Hospital. Jamie was moved as well so she could be near him. That night, he was placed on a heart-lung bypass machine in order to give his heart time to heal. Further testing revealed a blood clot in his heart. Surgery was performed to remove the clot, but his heart did not improve.

The following evening, Thursday, the doctor called his parents in to explain there was blood moving into Kaden’s brain and there was no chance of recovery. He died in his parent’s arms soon after, surrounded by family. Even though he was only with us for a short time, we will love him and remember him always. Please keep him, Jamie, and Eric in your thoughts and prayers.
